St Johns Abbey Organ Recording

Recorded for an upcoming (Summer 2025) Documentary called “Full Stops”

Setup

12 channels with the main ORTF-3D array in the choir (crossing part of the Abbey) then spot mics up in the Presbytery and High Alter to capture the detail of the pipes. The ORTF array has upward and rear facing mics to capture the reflections as they come back from the far walls.

MN Orchestra Hall - St Thomas Christmas

TPT’s St Thomas Christmas Special, “So Bright The Star” aired December 18, 2017.

Setup

Massive 80+ channels! Ceiling mics in the stage enclosure and reflection canopy, the Decca Tree Array and House mics formed the body of the sound. Then, as many spot mics on instrument sections as we could fit on all the instruments and each section of the choirs. Lastly a set up of mics hung from the balconies for the choir singing in the aisles. This gave me maximum flexibility in post for bringing out and suppressing parts as well as making musical edits to fix sections of music.

Recorded by Tom Hambleton and Ezra Gold. Mixed by Tom Hambleton. Show Colored by Ezra Gold.

David Krusen Solo Piano Session

for Songs of David Vol 1 coming Fall of 2025

Setup

Small 4 channels setup with an “upper” piano and a “lower” piano mic. Then spaced omnis placed in distant parts of the first floor. The “room” sound itself was not stellar so it was decided to add some reverb in post. This gives it a slightly grander rather than intimate feel, with depth yet clarity.

Recorded by Tom Hambleton. Mixed and Mastered by Tom Hambleton.
